It is important to take notice of your son's complaint especially if only one of his knees is involved. Your son's complaint could be due to a condition called 'patellar tendonitis' [inflammation of the tendon attached to the knee cap] or a problem with the top end of the tibia bone in his lower leg,a condition is known as Osgood-Schletter syndrome. Also at this age children with a hip problem may experience pain in the knee as a first symptom. It is important that your son is seen by a paediatric orthopaedic specialist.
