Hi Dr
Please can you help me. I have a little 5 day old who seems a little yellow since being discharged from hospital. I took him to the clinic and the sister said that he is slightly jaundice but we have no need to worry as he is feeding well and appears well hydrated. I hate to sound like I am second guessing the clinic but I just want to put my mind at ease - can a baby''s jaundice clear up on its own if it only a mild case? Is it safe to leave it if his colour does not seem to get worse and he is feeding well? He is not lethargic etc.

Yes, as long as your baby's jaundice is mild all should be well. This form of jaundice is knwn as 'physiological jaundice' and is normal physiological event and is not dangerous for your baby. Importantly your baby is feeding well and is not lethargic. His jaundice should disappear completely over the next 10 days or so.
