Itchy penis

Doc, my 6y old has a persistatly itchy penis. He has had it for months now and my husband helps him to wash himself thoroughly. I have used nystatin, skincalm, medaspore, bactroban and yet the itch persists, There is a slight reddening where the foreskin attaches to the penis, but nothing else that I can see. Any advise for us please.

Thank you

The usual cause of this problem is a candida infection. You have already used the usual treatments which should clear up a candida infection without any success. It would be best to consult a dermatologist about this complaint as it is really causing your son a lot of discomfort.

My son had to go for a circumsition at age 4yr! This is not a easy thing to do, it is VERY sore!!!! We only desided on this after we consulted 3 specialists...The only reason for this was the chronic infection and because the skin couldn' t pull back, it was as big as a match head in front, it could never pull back, since birth....Sinse the operation he never had any problems....My dr prescribed an eyecream that I had to put on...Be carefull not to just put bactroban on, because it can worsen things! A dr needs to make the right diagnosis!

My son had that problem &  found that he could not eat fruit untill he got older. But I too think that circumsition is a good idea.Just watch what he eats and have him drink plenty of water.
