Itchy eyes and ears

Hi Doc,
My son is 7 months old and weighs 8kg. He''s been suffering colds and blocked nose (it comes and goes) but the blocked nose has been there for over a month now.
He breaths funny(snores a bit) when awake but the strange thing is, when sleeping he is not snoring. My concern is he is scratching his eyes and ears a lot. And since the past 6 weeks he has developed dark cycles around the eyes.
I took him to the Paed 5 weeks ago and he prescribed the " sprinklers"  and a noce spray(). I have been using then daily since then but he is still scratching his ears and eyes.
Temparature is normal, he eats and drinks like he should. He is on solids(cereal, veges and fruit), we only started chicken and beef a week ago. We use epizone e for his skin.
What could be causing the scratching and the continuous blocked nose?
Thank you in advance

It certainly sounds as if your baby has quite a severe nasal allergy problem. The usual cause at this age is an allergy to a food especially to cow's milk or wheat. Another common cause is an allergy to a cat, if you have a cat at home or possibly at the creche,if he attends a creche. Your baby should be on a good antihistamine. I recommend Zyrtec drops given by mouth once daily.Continue with the other medicines as prescibed by your paediatrician.Your baby should be tested for allergies.
