Q.

Is this asthma?

Dear Doc

We are an allergic family with asthma on both sides. I am an asthmatic and my baby' s eldest brother is as well.

I have noticed regularly now, that my baby coughs when he walks around (like when we walk down the road) and when he rides his bike. He is now 17m old. He does not cough at night or in the mornings and he is not ill at the moment. He sounds to me like I sound when I excersize.

Do you think this is the start of asthma for him and how would you recommend I treat it?

Kimd regards

You have been very observant and the symptoms you describe are due to asthma. At present he seems to only be showing the exercise-induced symptoms. He would benefit from starting on a non-cortisone asthma preventer called Singulair which he can take in the sprinkle form. Please see your paediatrician.
