Q.

Is this a good thing?

Morning doctor

I would like to get your input on this matter from a doctor' s and medical point of view.

Is it a good thing for an infant (at crawling stage) to be in an environment where the whole household is covered in pet hair? If I say the whole household I mean the carpets, floors, furniture, beds, clothes and the car.

And also where there is excessive smoking.

I am really in the hot water about these two instances with the family as I refuse to take my little one (8 months) to the family where these conditions occur.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it.

You know the answer to these questions even without my input. Of course you are correct. Cigarette smoke is bad for children of any age and being in a place heavily covered by pet hair is also not advised because of possible allergies and other illnesses.

I totally agree with D - will never take my baby into a household like that! Does not matter who it is! So dont feel bad - if they want to see your baby, they can visit you!
and smoke is not even open for discussion!

As a mother of two, personally I would NOT take my baby into a household like that.

I have heard that a child' s immune system is stronger when they grow up with pets, but hair EVERYWHERE - NO WAY, NO CHANCE.

REGARDING THE SMOKING, IF AN ADULT WANTS TO SMOKE ITS UP TO THEM, A BABY CANT MAKE THAT CHOICE. To me, thats just poisening their little lungs.

Trust your instinct, keep your baba away
