Is my son underweight?

My son will be 6 in Spetember. He is about 1.18m and weighs only 17 kg

. He does tend to get hungry often and loves eating fruit and nuts. At meals he does tend to eat small portions as he gets full quickly. When he is hungry he does get very agitated and tends to throw tantrums.

He is active at home but when we go out for walks/shopping he gets tired and lethargic very qiuckly. He also tends to have very dry lips but the rest of his skin is smooth.

Is his weight fine? Could there be something wrong?

The average weight for a boy of 6 years is 21kg and height 121cm. So you can see that your son's weight and height are both below average. It is his weight that worries me as his weight is on the very lowest level of the growth chart for boys of 6 years. He may also be anaemic as he tires easily.Another possibility based on the story you have given here is that he may be have a problem with his blood sugar. He should be seen by your paediatrician.
