Is medicine making my family sick?

antibiotic resistence has been well published, but is it all types of medicine that are being over-prescribed? which ones should me and my family avoid if we can, and what should we do instead?

This is a very wide question to answer as there are so many different kinds of medicines available. In general antibiotics should only be used when there is a definite bacterial infection and a probiotic should be given at the same time. Some pain medicines contain codeine which may constipate children and cause dependence so use simple and safe medicines for fever or pain such as paracetamol eg Panado or Calpol. Pseudoephedrine in some medicines used for blocked noses causes children to be very active and is no longer permitted for children under 2 years.Saline nose drops are far safer and are effective for children to use for blocked nose.If you have any questions about any medicine prescribed for your children that you are worried about you are very welcome to write to me and I will advise you.
