is grommets the only solution to ear infections

my son is 1 year 3 months old.he has been suffering for a while now with broncholitis which comes every 2nd,3rd month.he has been on treatments for this.he has also been suffering with a congested nose and an ear husband and i have taken him to an ENT specialist 2 weeks ago.He explained to us that he''s got fluid in his ears which needs to be drained out and the only solution is grommets.till we decide what to do,he prescribed DESELEX syrup for my baby which he has taking every day and he has not suffered with any pain since then, its seems to be helping.I need to know if grommets is the only operation solution or will the ear infection subside with the medication that we are giving him.

please advise me.

My seuntjie het grommets gekry op 10 maande. Hy is nou 11 maande en vir die eerste keer is hy vir ''n maand lank gesond - geen loopneus, geen oorontsteking. Dit het vir ons gewerk.

I was reluctant to have grommets put in my sons ears as I thought doctors just insisted on them in the way that they used to insist every child had their tonsils removed 30 years ago.

After our fourth ear infection in about six months (actually just one long ear infection that wasn''t clearing), my sons speech deteriorating, we decided to put them in (also ear infections are very painful apparently). What a difference. He had them put in at about 08:00 in the morning. By 10:00 he was a different child. He stopped biting, he had far fewer tantrums, he listened when we spoke to him (he''d genuinely not been able to hear us), his speech was back to normal within about a week.

he was 20 months old with the first set. They came out after about 2 years. We had a few months with no ear infections when they started up again. Antiobiotic after antibiotic with no change. ENT then tried cortisone which cleared the one ear but not hte other. At 5 we put in another set of grommets. Once again there was immediate improvement.

If your child is suffering, they really are worth it.
