is baby getting a cold she is very warm

Hi Doc and anyone else who might have suggestions.

my baba is 6months old this week. She has a very runny nose. her little body feels like it is overheating. I took her temp laat night and it was sitting on 38. she is not coughing, but does seem to be very miserable and teary, she is not normaly like this. i noticed she starting getting very clingy over the weekend. She doent have a real apitite at the moment normaly she will eat 3 to 4 times a day but she only ate twice yesterday, and her portions that she got in were less that half of what she normaly eats on one sitting. she is however drinking her bottle and some chilled purity fruit juice to cool her down. does it sound like she has a cold, if so what can i give her to help make it feel better and dry up her nose. she has got teeth in her gums but they have not cut yet, Im not sure if this will give her the above symptoms, if they are busy cutting. i have asked the lady watching her to keep an eye on her temp and let me know if it gets any worse so that I can take her to the doc.

thank you in advance for any help and advise that you can give me.

Your baby has a bad cold which is also affecting her chest. This is most probably due to a virus infection. Give her Panado for infants for her fever and keep her nose clear by using Salex nose drops twice daily in both of her nostrils. If her nose is very blocked ask your pharmacist for a suction device to clear the mucous out of her nostrils so that she can breathe through her nose.If she starts to cough and has difficulty in taking her feeds it would be best to ask your doctor to see your baby.

It does sound like she is getting sick.
Teething will not cause symptoms like a temperature.

Firstly, give her panado or calpol to bring her temperature down.
Also dress her in just a nappy and a vest to help bring her temperature down.
Don''t worry if she doesn''t want to eat, most people don''t want to eat much when they feel sick, but ensure she gets lots of fluids like carries on having her bottle and has cooled boiled water to drink.

Use a saline nasal spray such as chamiflour ocean spray in her nose which is very soothing and keeps everything running out so it doesn''t clog up and cause further infection.

Its usually best when baby is so young to see the doctor when they have a temperature though.
