Iron Defficiency

Hello Doc!

I wrote a while ago about my daughers iron defficiency.
She has been on 5ml Ferrimed twice a day for nearly 3 months.
Her Blood test this week showed that her iron level has gone from 3.9 to 6.6, so we are making progress.
She is now 3.5 years old.

Then my son, 18 months, started off at 8, and his level now is 9.6, but she did mention that his Ferritin is lower now.
He has been on 2.5ml once a day.

Dr said we must leave my daughers meds as is, and increase my sons to 2,5ml twice a day.
And then have them tested again in 6 months.

Is Ferrimed the best?
I saw in the shops there is a cheweble one to?
Can I consider giving them the tablets, or maybe half of it?

Thank you so much!!
Your input is always appreciated!

You are very welcome.Your daughter is doing well and your son will respond better once he is on the correct dose of Ferrimed.Give the Ferrimed with meals.Ferrimed is an excellent iron supplement. I would not advise using the chewable tablet as it will be difficult to work out the correct dose for your children.

My 3 year old complained of headache, and after a lot of doctors and specialists later one pointed out her ear lobes are very pale, so they tested her iron...
But it is genetic as my sister and I suffer from it!

For a blood count and iron lever test it is about R400....

Hi Zee,

What were your children''s symptoms that you took them to be tested for iron deficiency? My two sons have dark rings under their eyes and I was wondering if this is iron deficiency. Is the blood test expensive?
