Interrupted sleep

My 2yr old cries at least once or twice during the night or early in the morning just before she wakes up - she usually kicks &  screams for a few minutes and settles when I pick her up. She will then refuse to be put down to bed again, so I have to wait until she falls asleep again. She sleeps on my bed.

Initially I thought this was a bad dream but it' s been happening every night for a few months now. I sometimes also give her a bottle incase she' s hungry but the cries usually continue for a little longer. This happens even whether she' s ill or not.

What could be the problem? I' m really worried. Could this be psychological? There' s been no change in her environment.

This is unlikely to be psychological. The most likely cause is a form of night terrors or bad dreams which is common at this age. This is always a passing phase. It is possible as well that she is also taking advantage of the attention she gets when she wakes up crying so she may be doing a bit of crying to get attention.Being in your bed she is close to her source of attention and comfort. It may well be time to move her to her own bed and in her own room. After reading to her and settling her down for the night she should go off to sleep.A nightlight will be of help in her room.
