Q.

Inexplicable temperature

Hi there,
My 17 month old daughter has been running a high temp sporadically for 3 days - today I measured it at 39 degrees. I immediately gave her some Ponstan and it had been normal for the past 2 hours. She isn' t miserable, has no sign of upper respiratory tract infection, or any other sign of illness - so I have no idea where the temperature is coming from.
Could it be teething?
Should I take her to her Paed?
Thanks very much.

Your daughter's very high temperature does not come from teething. She may be decveloping a viral illness such as Roseola [baby measles], but more likely she may have a urinary system infection. Please ask your paediatrician to see her.
