Q.

Hydration

Good Morning Dr.

I have concern. My 2year 8 months old Baby Boy wakes up almost every night asking for water. I am much more concerned with the amount of liquids he is taking. The reason for my concern as well is that two months ago a Friends Baby who is years was diagonised with sugar diabeties, My Grandmother had it and My Mother has it as well. Do we have to be worried?

Excessive thirst is a sign of diabetes in children. You have a very strong family history of diabetes. Most children who ask for water at night have been breathing through their mouths due to having a blocked nose. However with your family history it would be best to ask your doctor to test your son's urine for possible diabetes.
