HPV vaccine

Hello Dr. I have been doing a little research on the hpv vaccine and was quite shocked to read that they are now recommending that girls from age 9 receive it. Would you mind giving your opion on this vaccine. As its is fairly new, how much is known about side effects and how well it works. My biggest concern for giving it to such a young girl is that it may give them the impression that sex is ok as a child - as I would have to explain to my daughter why she is getting it. My daughter has just turned 8 so we will need to consider this during the next couple of years.

Many thanks

This vaccine is usually recommended at the age of 14 years. It has been extensively tested and is safe. It is a huge advance in protecting girls not only against the HP virus but also against cervical cancer.
