How do I know if my 15mo has a sinus infection?

Hi Doc
My daugher is 15 months old and has been in creche since she was 6 months old. She has had constant colds and about a month ago had her adenoids removed and grommets put in to help with constant fluid in her ears. She has since caught another cold and has had one now for three weeks. I use Demazin 3 x a day, Mucospect and Chamiflor salt spray to try to keep her nose clear. She had has not had temperature but she is a bit grumpy and her nose is thick and green and has been now for a week or a little more and has a slight chesty cough. Is this necessary to take her to the GP for antibiotic as it might be a sinus infection ? Can I try a bit of celestamine syrup that i have from the last prescription? Thanks so much for your advise. Angela.

You are welcome. Babies do not have sinuses so your baby does not have a sinus infection at her age.She has the symptoms of the creche syndrome and is always getting colds. She would be much better away from a creche.Do not give her Celestamine which is a powerful cortisone. Also no Demazin wich contains phenylephrine and is making her grumpy. Only use Salex or Sterimar twice daily to clear her nose. Also continue with the Mucospect. She may have an infection involving the area of her nose where her adenoids were removed and may need an antibiotic if she does not settle by the weekend.
