Q.

hospital injection

hi there doc, my little girl was born in july, and on the day we left she was given her shot and polio drops. we were told that the shot on her right arm will look like a zit, and we shouldnt fuss with it, which we didnt, but now 3 months later, theres still a ugly bump, and it is -|- . by accident, it was scratched open on saturday, and the puss came out, i cleaned it and put a plaster over. it made a scab, and today when i cleaned it again, the scab came off, and its extremely red, and a watery/bloody puss is coming out. theres two holes that doesnt look nice. i am taking her to the doc, but is it anything to worry about. what can be the cause?

This sounds like what is known as a BCG abscess. This occurs at the place on your baby's arm where the BCG immunisation was give against TB soon after her birth. These abscesses usually clear up by themselves although it can take a long time for this to happen. No treatment is usually required and the abscess should not be covered with a plaster.
