Hoarse Cough

Hi Doc,

My 13month old boy has a runny nose, I''ve been giving him rinex and illiadin nose drops. For the past 2 nights in the middle of the night his voice gets hoarse. The first night he coughed and it sounded like a little bark but last night he didnt cough at all but still sounded a little hoarse. He also has no fever. He is fine during the day with no coughing and is his usual self. I''ve given him a little mucospect. Should I need to be worried about his cough and take him to the doctor rather?

Thank You

It sounds as if your son has croup. Keep his nose clear by using a saline nasal spray such as Sterimar two to three times a day. If he starts to cough again tonight take him into the bathroom for 10 to 15 minutes and turn on the hot shower in order to steam up the bathroom. Of course he should NOT be in the shower just in the bathroom while the shower is running and the place is all nice and steamed up.If he is still coughing tomorrow he should be seen by your doctor.
