It is unusual for such a young boy to get herpes zoster. I presume that he has been given an anti-viral medicine such as acyclovir. There are usually no long term effects once the zoster has cleared up in children, but a small number of children may get ongoing pain in the area of the zoster infection for up to 4 weeks after the rash has cleared.
