Q.

Herpes in kids/teens

My sister''s 13 year old has had herpes twice within a space of 4-6 months in this year. Is this usual in kids especially when they are not sexually active. The herpes has occured previously on his chest and recently on his back.

This is not the form of herpes that affects the genital area and is definitely not a sexually acquired kind of herpes.Your nephew has had Herpes Zoster or Shingles. It is caused by the chicken pox virus. The question is why your nephew has had this illness twice at his young age. His immunity needs to be tested.
