Q.

Hernia after laparotomy

hi dr
Me again - 33 month old, gastrostomy peg, had mini laparotomy done last Monday.

Today Tay went and had his stitches out and we were told there is a bulge under the site and that it looks as if it can be a hernia. We need to come back in 2wk to check it is still there and discuss options.

What options would those be? What is usually done with hernias under operation sites? Am l correct in saying they are surgically fixed?

Thank you
P

I am not sure from your description exactly where this hernia is. If it is a so-called 'incisional hernia' at the operation site then this is usually has to be repaired by a small operation.I hope that Tay is making good progress other than him having this possible hernia.
