hep a

hi dr. my husband has been diagnosed with Hep A and on his way home after 3 weeks in africa. i would like to know if he is contagious and what precautions should i take for myself and my two year old son? my son has all vaccines required. your advice would be appreciated.

Your son may have been immunised against Hepatitis A, please check his immunisation chart.This is an infectious condition and your husband must use his own eating utensils and plates,preferably the disposable kind.He must wash his hands carefully especially after using the toilet. Fortunately Hepatitis A is not usually a dangerous form of hepatitis. Please read more on Google.
