Dear Doc

My 6y old son had his tonsils out on Thursday. He has been in pain as expected and I give him the ponstel and stopayne alternating 3 hourly as the ENT perscribed. He also has an atibiotic that he has had 4 doses of.

My problem is that he has started running a fever 39 despite the medication. I must mention that his younger brother is still recovering from Pneumonia and an earinfection that he developed this week. My older son is coughing as well.

I phoned the ENT''s rooms, but there is no answer and the message does not give an after hours number.

Can you please tell me what to do now?

Thank you

Your son needs to be seen by a doctor. It is unlikely that he has pneumonia but he may well have infection in the part of his throat where his tonsils were removed or he may have an ear infection. Please take him to be seen at your nearest after hours/emergency paediatric unit. Take his medicines along to show the doctor there.
