Hi Doctor,

my son is 17 months old and usually slept pretty well, but recently he' s been starting to wake up every half an hour screaming. Someone told me that it might be heartburn/Indigestion. When I spoke to a pharmacist, I was told that toddlers don' t get heartburn, it' s not normal. I have read in your archive that I can use Gaviscon.

How long should I try this for before taking him to a pediatrician? Everything else is normal with him, so I wasn' t concerned before, but he does seem to be in pain when he wakes up screaming?

It does seem likely that your toddler is still troubled by reflux. This is not very common at his age, but he does seem to have the symtoms.Gaviscon is used for heartburn in babies and young children, usually in the form of sachets which are added to milk.
