Dear Doc

My 8y old son complained of a headache on Friday evening. He is also feverish. He does not have any cold symptoms or stomach symptoms although he did say he needed to wee all the time. My question is this: His head seems to be extremely sensitive to touch - even the lightest touch (like stroking his hair) hurts him, yet he did not bump his head anywhere. Do you think this is a migraine kind of headache that made him so sensitive to touch. His fever has now been present since Friday (24hours so far) and is 38.6. He is also pale but he is still eating.

Thank you

Your son's headache and other symptoms could be due to a migraine headache, but his fever is very much against this diagnosis. As he is very definite about having a bad headache and is feverish it is important to exclude a condition such as meningitis. He should be seen by a doctor. Please take him to be seen at an after hours paediatric unit.
