Head Lifting from Tummy

Hi Doc, My son is just over 4 months now and is able to sit for short periods on his own and has very good head control, however when he is on his tummy he is still battling to lift his head to the 90 degrees - we do tummy time everyday but he just turns his head to the side or sucks the blanket, he just doesn' t want to lift his neck. I have tried rattles above him and things to get his attraction but he doesn' t want to do it. Should I be worried?

It is rather unusual that your baby is not lifting his head at his age. What makes it more difficult to understand is that he will be sitting on his own quite soon.I presiume that all his other milestones have been normal such as smiling and looking at you. If they have there is probably no need for concern and he will continue to develop normally. If his head appears to be rather 'floppy' on his neck and he seems to have poor control of his head and neck then it would be best to consult your paediatrician.
