dear doc
my daughter was prescribed allecet when she was 18 months old, due to repeated tonsilitis which we think was caused by hayfever/nasal drip, etc. she is now 3½  and have been getting it on and off. can its affectiveness wear off after a while? is there anything else that we can give her? her tonsils are also very big and lately she' s been snoring a lot and also stops breathing sometimes for 3-5 seconds due to not wanting to breath through her mouth. your advice will be appreciated.

This is a very serious situation indeed. Your daughter has such severe nasal obstuction, probably due to enlarged adenoids that she is having SLEEP APNOEA. She must be seen by an ENT specialist ASAP.The ENT specialist will also advise about her tonsils which almost certainly will need to be removed.
