Hard stools and doesnt like milk.

Hi Doc
My six months old son is on NAN 2 , I also breastfeed him in afternoons and whenever Im home AND on solids. We give him cerealac rice in morning and evenings , he takes fruit and veg purity during the day. He doesnt like the bottle anymore he hardly drinks 200ml during the day but at night takes 200ml. He is not keen on brest milk either. We also give him about 100ml of pre-bolied water with a bit of brown sugar daily. I also add Calcuba to his bottle.
While he was about a month or two , he had a problem passing very loose stools and too often. The doctor recommended pre-biotics, which helped.
Ever since he started solids at 4months , he''s had problems with very dry stools.

1. What could be causing dry stools and how can we help?
2. Is his milk feed enough?

Not an easy question to answer. Your baby's constipation started at 4 months with introduction of solids, so it is probably the cereal which is causing this. Change from the Cerelac cereal which contains cows milk and rather use Purity rice cereal. It is possible that the NAN2 is aggravating his constipation so rather change to either NAN Pelargon or to Lactogen2. Do not give the extra calcium as this may also be aggravating his constipation. Breast milk is best especially with a constipated baby.He is definitely not taking enough milk per day as his requirements are 140ml for every kilogram he weighs per day.
