Q.

Hard Stools

My 5 month old twins both have very hard, putty-like stools, which are normally dark brown to dark green in colour (like the outside skin of an avocado). They are on breastmilk and Isomil 1. I' ve tried adding a pinch of brown sugar to their formula but this does not seem to work. They seldom have loose stools. Is this normal and what can I do to alleviate this?

This is obviously not normal and your twins are passing constipated stools. This is almost certainly due to the Isomil. If there is no good reason for them to be on a soya formula then change to a cow's milk formula such as Lactogen1.

They' ve been on Isomil since they were 2months old. Thanks for the knuckle massage tip, I' ll give it a try.

Sorry to butt in... have you recently started the isomil??? If so it could be the formula...

My little boy seems to get constipated at times with solids and I do a anti-clockwise massage on his left heel with my knuckle and within hours I can expect a poop (a little reflexology trick I' ve learnt)... oh he' ll be 7 months next week...
