Grommets and fluid leaking out

My son [10m] had grommets put in approx 2 weeks ago and yesterday I noticed that there is alot of fluid leaking out of his left ear. He has been very snotty and chesty. Is the grommet just doing what it is meant to do? do I need to take him back to the ENT?

This is what the grommets are meant to do and that is drain the fluid which is presently in your baby's middle ears behind the ear drums.

The grommets are just doing what it is ment to do. The reason for the Grommets was because there was fluid building up behind the ear drum and then it gets infected (then you get middle ear infection), so now there is something to let the fluid drain out, now it does not get infected and the your son does not get middel ear infection.
