Grommets - 11 mths

Dear Paed
My son had grommets put in almost 2 months ago and they have been great. However periodically his ears weep quite a bit, when I phoned his ENT he advised us to use Exocin drops until it clears, which it did, but his ears are weeping again and quite badly, does this mean that the grommets are doing their job?Can I just persist with the drops or should I rather have this checked? He does seem to be in quite a bit of pain when this happens. Thanks so much.

The purpose of grommets is to drain out the fluid which has accumulated in your baby's middle ears behind the ear drums. This appears to be what is happening and all that usually needs to be done is to keep your baby's ear canals dry by gently mopping with an ear bud twice a day. What concerns me is that your baby seems to be uncomfortable or in pain. This probably means that he may have an ear infection again. Please ask the ENT surgeon to see your baby again.
