Q.

Glue Ear

Hi Professor,

My 2 year old has glue ear. Is there a home remedy I can do to help move the muck along his tube? He is on anti biotics and Prelone but I thought I could put a warm face cloth there.

Thank you.

A glue ear means that your son has thick fluid in his middle ears behind his ear drums. This fluid is too thick and sticky to be able to drain down his eustschian tubes normally. You can help him by keeping his nose as clear as possible by using a saline nasal spray such as Sterimar twice a day. This will make it a bit easier for his eustachian tubes to drain the fluid from his middle ears. A warm cloth will not be able to help him.
