GBS worries

Hi Paed

I gave birth to a child with Group B Strep septicaemia in 2003, she spent 2 weeks in PICU and it was touch and go for the first week. May I ask if there is a very high risk of the next baby being infected too?

Also, is there any link you are aware of, between being a GBS carrier (as I am) and always having UTIs/cystitis? I suffer a lot from these conditions as well as excessive urination at night and am wondering if the GBS in my system has anything to do with it.

May I add that Grop B Strep receives very little publicity here. I know it is not a ' common'  infection but what a baby goes thru if born with it is very, very distressing.

thanks

L

If you are a StrepB carrier then there is a very high risk of your baby being infected. You must speak to your Gynae about this.GBS is a common cause of cystitis in women.Speak to your doctor about this.
