Gastro and Tonsils

My 9 year old son was diagnosed with Gastro last week 12 Nov 2010 and received the relevant meds. However the doctor did mention a touch of Tonsilitis but said I do not need an antibiotic because it is a viral infection. Well today 18 Nov 2010 his tummy started again, on top of that has a constant blocked nose and headaches. I don''t know what else to do and my medical aid for the year is already exhausted.

It sounds as if your son has two separate problems. It is unusual for a boy of his age to have such persistent gastro. It is possible that he has picked up a nasty infection such as possibly a salmonella infection. Then he also has the symptoms of sinusitis. You can use Salex or Sterimar nasal spray to try to clear his nose but his gastro is a problem. You could try him on a Rehidrat solution which he must drink as often as possible through the day, follow the instructions on the packet. Also give him a good probiotic daily for 10 days. If he is not better after 48 hours of this treatment he should be seen by a doctor.
