fussy baby

Hi doc,
i have a 6 month, 2wks old boy. he started on solids at 4.5 months and was having purity, nestum and veggies. he used to be a good eater and drank enough formula. for the past month he does not want to eat any solids. he throws up after every single feed, the food even comes out of his nose, and only drinks about 350ml formula per day. i took him to a paed, who said we have to force him to eat as he will soon be underweight for his age. the paed advised that after he throws up, i must give him a few minutes and try again. sometimes this works and the food stays down, but sometimes he throws up again. he weighed 6.5 at his last weighing last week. i also notice that he is sleeping for longer hours recently. i started giving him an appetite stimulant, longifene, but he still won''t eat or drink his formula. im at my wits end because im afraid this will hold up his development. he is otherwise a happy baby who laughs and makes sounds

The average weight for a 6 month old baby boy is 8kg. Your baby's weight is certainly very low on the infant growth chart at this age. There must be a reason why he is not eating and why he vomits after every feed. He may have developed a food allergy especially a wheat allergy. It would be best if he is seen by a paediatric allergist and is carefully examined and tested for allergies. There are experts in all the main centres in SA.I am concerned about your baby. Please let me know how he gets on.
