Q.

Funny stool

Hi Prof

Our son, 2, is having wierd stool. It is putty-like and smells and comes every hour or two in a little lump.
He has a redundant, extra long colon and suffers from constipation if he does not have enough fibre and water, but this is different from the " normal"  hard ' bok-drolletjies'  that he would get.
This has been going on since yesterday, say for about 10 nappies so far....
He also seems a bit ill....snotty nose and crying easily.

Should I take him to a doctor or give a laxative or just sit it out?

Thanks!

This is obviously not your son's normal stool/s. It may be the first sign of a common problem called toddlers diarrhoea which is due to too much fruit and fruit juice [fructose] in the diet. Another possibility is that he may have worms especially pinworms. It would be best to ask your doctor to see him.
