Q.

funny smell on breath

my six mnth old is on allecet for his allergies, nasonex too. today i smelled a weird smell on his breath. very faint but enough for me to smell. its a herby smell- not horrible but not pleasant either. could it be the meds? he ate banana for lunch but surely that smell would quickly dissipate? he doesnt have any signs of infection -ear/throat. so what could this be? his breath usually smells of nothing.

I presume that your baby has a blocked nose otherwise he would not be on the treatment you mention here. The smell you have noticed may come from mouth breathing due to having a blocked nose. It is unlikely that your baby has nasal allergy at 6 months and there may be another cause for his blocked nose.He should not be on a cortisone spray like Nasonex at such a young age.Rather use saline nose drops such as Salex twice a day.
