Q.

Fungal rash

Dear Doc

My son is 3 months old. A few days ago he developed a rash consisting of several red areas in the front area of his nappy. His foreskin is also red. There is no rash on his buttocks.

The clinic sister suggested I apply Canesten twice a day. Is this the best that I can be doing?

Regards
Sam

Your baby son seems to have a candida nappy rash. Was he perhaps given an antibiotic recently? Try Nystatin cream applied at lest twice a day to the rash. If the rash does not clear after 5 days he should be seen by his paediatrician.
