Q.

Freckles.

I would ike to know how to handle my 6 year old son being picked on because his face is covered in freckles? He is starting to say things like ' I want to kill myself'  and ' I hate myself'  because of the freckles. I love my Son and I personally feel that his freckles are rather endearing and cute. I am always telling him how handsome he is, but what I say doesn' t count when it takes just one person to mention his freckles and kids do tend to pick out the one thing that you feel insecure about! I love him the way he is but if this is making him unhappy I want to try and help. Is there anything I could do about this?

It is difficult for children to deal with being teased at school and just because they are a little different from the other children in a small way. You need to get your son to understand that freckles are very common in young children and often fade as the child gets older. In the meantime keep on emphasising that he is handsome and show him pictures of some a film star such as Robert Redford who has plenty of freckles. It would help if you could show him a well known sports star with freckles as well. Can't think of any other than Herschelle Gibbs. Speak to the teacher if he continues to be teased.
