I am concerned about my newborn. He sleeps for three to four hour stretches throughout the day and night and is seldom awake for more than a few minutes. I am formula feeding and I don''t know if I am overfeeding or under feeding. I offer a bottle each time he wakes up of 125mls. How much formula should my baby be drinking his current weight is 3.4kgs.

Your baby needs about 460ml of formula per day and he will take what he needs with each feed.. You do not mention just how old he is. His sleeping pattren is normal. The important question is: Is he gaining weight? If he is then all is well.

The best thing would be to go back to your ante-natal supervisor or paediatrician and have his weight checked, as the doc mentioned. Sometimes babies sleep a lot and need to be woken for a feed so they don''t lose weight, a little to us is a lot to them.
