Q.

Formula

My boy is 12 weeks old..he has had a UTI infection that struggling to clear up....on top of that he now is very constipated...has been on his formula Lactogen almost same time that he started Augmentin antib for infection. Antibiotics now finished and constipated! Crying etc.....Paed is sending him for a sterile urine sample in a few days and at same time sister has told me to rather change to lighter formula such as Nan 1. People do say do not change formula except if you absolutely have to..what do you think..should I stay on Lactogen or should I change to Nan1. He has got a sensitive stomach and depositing some milk two to three hours after feed. Sister is saying he is struggling to digest...I really just need a second opinion?

You have not given me any indication if your baby's constipation problem started when he was on the antibiotic. keep him on the same formula and give him a probiotic such as Reuteri drops 1ml daily for 10 days. If he remains constipated after this time change his formula. As your baby son has had a UTI make sure that he has a full ultrasound examination of his urinary system to ensure that he has no abnormalities of this system.

Constipation started after antib was finished....two three days afterwards......Had the ultrasound but all normal....our paed is sending us to a specialist though as he has had a second UTI infection straight after the first..now tummy is running and sleeping habits totally changed..also want to drink every three hours all of a sudden...(was on 4 hourly schedule during the day previously and skipped one night feed - 10 o clock - Now demands milk at 10 and 2!! Is this all normal?
