Q.

Fluid intake

How much fluid should my 4 year old daughter drink per day? She currently drinks a cup of rooibos tea with breakfast. Then she has a bottle of juice for school (approx 400ml). And then only half a glass of milk or water in the evenings. I battle to get her to drink more, and she also doesn' t want to go to the toilet often - for a whee or a poo. She' s been to hospital two weeks ago for a blocked bowel. And I had to flush her by giving Movicol three times daily. Can the lack of fluid also help causing this? Thank you.

Your daughter is drinking too little fluid per day. She needs about 1200ml per day. She is drinking about 700ml at the most. Aim for 6 drinks of about 200ml per day. This is also the reason why she became so constipated.Encourage her to drink water.
