Q.

Fatten baby???

My baby girl is 6 months old...weighs 6 kg...she is tiny I know! She is VERY happy and full of energy but simply hated drinking her milk....she has taken nicely to maize cereal, fruit and veg though but simply hates any milk...she has NEVER been a big drinker at all...

What can I add to her food, etc...I REALLY need to fatten her up!!!
She is petite, fine built and generally has a very small appetite...tummy fills up very quickly...

Pls help! Am desperate to get her weight up..am so tired of everyone telling me how small she is...makes me feel like im such a bad mom.....

It is unusual for a baby to be so determined not to drink her formula. Milk is your baby's most important source of nutrition now. Yes, she is indeed underweight for her age. No other foods are an adequate substitute for milk at this age. You should still try to find a formula which she will drink. Have you tried NAN Pelargon? Many babies like the yoghurt-like taste of this formula. It would be a good idea for you to take her to one of the baby clinics for advice if you still can't persuade your baby to take her formula.

Wow, it''s as if I posted this!!! I am not a doctor - but I also posted a similar question on the Parent Forum yesterday. Is she underweight according to a GP / Paed??? If not, then she''s just a small petite and pretty little girl. My daughter is almost 8 months and only just reached 7kg now (doc examined her and said she is small built, and was happy with her otherwise) - she is also very petite, has a small appetite and is not a fan of milk. But she is just too sweet, she is very happy and very healthy. Besides not drinking alot, we have absolutely no other complaints - she is just perfect. If she is underweight, then she obviously needs something, but if the doctor is happy with her weight, why do you want to fatten her up? You say that you feel like such a bad mom??? Well obviously you are doing something right if your baby is VERY happy and full of energy, as you say! dont be so hard on yourself, no 2 kids are the same, dont compare to other kids her age. I have now embraced the fact that I have a petite little angel, it makes her that much cuter!!! Just out of interest, go and read my post and all the comments on the Parent forum - sometimes we just need a little reassurance.
