Q.

Eyes rolling back...

Hi Doctor,

I got the fright of my life on Saturday when my 22 mnth old daughter fell off her little black plastic bike on the grass. I was watching her - it wasn' t anything hard - she just kinda slowly fell - she didn' t hit her head and if anything I thought her leg had gotten stuck under the bike.

When she started crying I went over to her to get her up but flipped out when I saw her eyes rolling back in her head &  her body went limp. Although it felt like an eternity, she came around in about 2 minutes.

This has really shaken me up because although it' s happened to her before when she fell off a plastic slide many months ago, I cannot understand what brought it on this time and why her body reacted in such a way - she didn' t even hit her head?

Could there be anything else that would bring on this on??

Thanks.

This appears to be a breath holding spell which is not uncommon in children of this age when they get a fright.Your daughter fell off her bike and this gave her a fright. If she has a breath holding spell again just gently blow on her face and she will soon start breathing again and return to normal.
