Q.

Extremely fussy eater

Dear Doc

My 16 month old daugher is an EXTREMELY fussy eater. She tends to spit out her food and very often refuses to open her mouth when I try feed her. I''m at my wits end now - is there something that I can do?

Many thanks!

Yes,you can do a lot for her now. Even though she is still very young you should try to get her to feed herself at meals. She must join the family at all mealtimes.Give her a spoon, put her food in front of her and let her try to feed herself. She will watch you and her Dad while you are eating and will try to copy you. Do not watch her while she is eating and don't say a word if she leaves any food on her plate.Just take the plate away. The next meal do exactly the same thing. With time she will start eating well.
