Extreme High temps.

Hi Doc,

Please can you give me some advice as to what you think may be wrong with my 2 year old.

On friday she started with a temp and became very drowsy and just wanted to lie around and refused to eat so I gave her some ponstan, once the medicine kicked in she was back to her normal self again but not eating until the medicine wore off. Her temps have been running very high (39.5) and it continued this way the entire weekend, She would actually vomit from her fever if we didnt give her medicine soon enough. I have no idea what could be the cause of her high temps. She isnt sick as in flu ect she has a slight cough but not a bad one. I am taking her to the doc today because i just cant break her temp. I was just wondering if you could suggest what could be the cause of this in the meantime so i know what to except when i see the doc later. I am very concerned about her. And she is looking very skinny, weighed her this morning and she is 10.5kgs. 3 months ago she was 12.5kg! She asks for food but when you give it to her she takes one bite and leaves it or just doenst even try. Please help.

I too am worried about your little girl with her history of loss of weight as well as her high fevers and vomiting. As it is possible that her symptoms are due to severe tonsillitis or even possibly to meningitis it is essential that she is seen by a paediatrician.
