Q.

EXPRESSING

I am expressing milk for my son who is 5 months old. He is currently at creche on Lacotgen 1 in the day and at night I feed him through till next morning.

How much do I express? Is it the same amount you would give as formula. He is now drinking 400 - 600 ml in the day and drinks from me at night.

Please help.

If your baaby son is of average weight for 5 months he should weigh 7.5kg. This means that he needs 1050ml of fluid per day. If he is drinking 600ml during the day he needs 450ml during the night.

No, its not the same as formula. A breastfed baby makes better use of the breast milk than the formula.

Baby needs about 60-120ml of breastmilk per feed.
