Expressed Milk

Hi Doc,

I am a first time mom, and my little boy is almost 5 weeks old. I have been having trouble with him latching. So I have been expressing milk for him.

He was 3.39kg''s at birth, an was back to that weight at his 1 week check up, and yesterday he weight 4.2 kg at 4 and a half week.

My paed said yesterday that i should rather feed him formula as expressed milk is watered down. Is this true? and should i stop expressing and switch to formula?

Your baby son's weight is excellent and is exactly on the average for his age. You can certainly continue to feed your baby with expressed breast milk which certainly is not watered down. If you are happy to continue expressing your breast milk your baby will continue to make the good progress he has done up to now.

No ways. Please continue feeding your boy breastmilk. I envy you terribly.

I have twin boys &  I expressed milk for them &  took it everyday to NICU. They spent almost 2 mths there. I unfortunately got ill &  my milk supply stopped. You don''t know how I wish my boys were getting even a little breast milk everyday. It''s the ebst thing they can get. And if you have sufficient milk, just keep expressing.
