Q.

Excessive toilet time

Hi

My 8 yr daughter spends a long time on the toilet when she has to poo. She has at least 4 to seven stools per day and sometimes she spends at least half an hour to poo. Her stools are however soft and not hard to past, Is this a bad habit or is something wrong?

Thanks

There must be something wrong if your daughter is going to the toilet so often in a day. She should be passing only one or two stools per day now. She may well be constipated in spite of the soft stools you see.The soft stool may be bypassing some retained constipated stool. There are other other possibilities such as a possible psychological cause or a food intolerance or inadequate digestion of certain foods. She should be seen by a paediatrician.
