Q.

Epidermolysis (Not sure of the Spelling)

Thanks for your help yesterday. They have now determined that the baby has epidermolysis, can you please explain to me what could be the cause and if she will suffer from this her whole life. The baby also started to get fits, could it be because of this.

Epidermolysis bullosa to give this rare genetic skin condition its full name is a serious condition. There is a defect in the adhesion btween the 2 main layers of the skin. The slightest trauma causes the skin to blister and shed itself almost like a burn. There are various grades of the condition and in the most serious form the baby's life is at risk. The fits are not related to the skin condition as such and probably are due to another cause. All sorts of treatments have been tried for epidermolysis including bone marrow transplants.
